Searchable map for WordPress?

(Grant Smith) #1

Hi,

I have had a request which I wondered if there was a plug-in that might get close to what is required. Or perhaps this could be achieved some other way and may not be as complicated as I initially thought?

The client has locations across the UK offering different geography fieldwork projects depending on the location. The client would like a searchable map which allows clients to quickly see what is on offer where. The search terms would be predefined, so in essence, a clickable list of items.

So for example, the client may wish to search for a particular topic for A level students in Scotland. The full list of results which are always on display reduces in accordance to the search criteria. Also, in an ideal world, the pin on the map, representing the location would be highlighted in some way.

I have done a rough sketch of what I believe they are after, which is below:

Many thanks for advice offered

If you don’t mind a little data entry, this would probably be a good fit: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-google-maps/

They apparently also have a pro version.

Hope this helps!

MapSVG (interactive vector maps WordPress/jQuery plugin) has integrated database with filters & search: http://mapsvg.com

You are looking for Geo Mashup. Years ago I built Live Work Oakland (kinda broken and abandoned, but the map still works!) with it, and it is great fun to build with. There is a slight learning curve, but once you grok it you will be laying down maps in no time.

I have a tutorial for that site, but it is outdated and the images are gone, so I will rewrite it some time. Let me know if you have any questions.
