Should we still use keywords using the 1% rule?

There is a rule of thumb that keyword density should be calculated by multiplying the word length of the article by 1%. For example if an article consists of 2000 words, then the keywords must be used 20 times.

Is this method still relevant?


My opinion is: no! You shouldn’t calculate keywords. Instead, each piece of content should be useful to the target audience. :slight_smile: :+1:

I can’t say I’ve heard specifically of the “1% rule” but I have heard of “SEO content writers” rigidly sticking to a certain keyword density percentage even if it means the content reads weirdly to actual humans.

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Similar to @maiki’s advice, my advice would be “write for humans” and don’t sweat things like keyword density.
